Traffic Shift On Rochambeau Bridge
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled shift of I-84 westbound traffic on the Rochambeau Bridge in Newtown and Southbury.
During the evening of Wednesday, September 2, 2020, westbound traffic on I-84 will be shifted onto the existing eastbound portion of the bridge structure, utilizing crossovers through the existing center median prior to and after the bridge.
The traffic shift will remove active traffic from the westbound portion of the structure to facilitate ongoing bridge rehabilitation activities, which will include demolition and reconstruction of the westbound portion of the bridge.
Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained after the traffic shift during peak periods, from 6 am to 7 pm, with lane closures only allowable at night.
The project consists of the rehabilitation of Bridges 01218 and 04180 (collectively called the “Rochambeau Bridge”), which carry I-84 over the Housatonic River.
In the case of inclement weather, the shift will be scheduled for the following night.
The project is scheduled to be completed by December 23, 2023
