Reed Brothers Attain Eagle Rank
Reed Brothers Attain Eagle Rank
On July 7, Boy Scout Troop 70 conducted an Eagle Court of Honor for brothers Ethan and Jordan Reed. Moderators of the Court of Honor, their first Scoutmaster Ed Breitling and their present Scoutmaster Rick Camejo, reviewed the accomplishments the brothers had achieved during their six years of scouting.
The accomplishments included the young men having earned more than 25 merit badges and camping nearly 150 nights each including a 11-day backpacking trip at the 135,000-acre Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico.Â
Both boys had held various leadership positions within the troop, including being elected in successive years to the top scout position of Senior Patrol Leader.
Ethanâs Eagle project consisted of working with Alâs Trails to conduct trail maintenance and move a trail that was dangerously close to an embankment of the Pootatuck River in Sandy Hook that had previously collapsed, trapping three teenagers.Â
Jordanâs Eagle project was to build an Adirondack-style lean-to on the grounds of Cullens Memorial Youth Association for youth groups to use for overnight camping.
Both projects required the scouts to completely design the project for a nonprofit organization, have all materials donated, and to lead the work parties to complete the project.
Ethan is presently enrolled as a freshmen at Virginia Tech as an engineering student. Jordan is a senior at Newtown High School and is co-captain of the cross country team.
