Miguel (Michael) Joaquim, 50, of Kannapolis, N.C., died last week at his residence in North Carolina. He was born in Nogueira, Portugal, on May 9, 1957.
He is survived by his brothers and their spouses, Antonio and Patricia of Sandy Hook, Albino and Sharyn of Cheshire, John and Lee of Monroe, Manuel and Nancy of Cheshire, and brother, Joseph of Bridgeport; sisters and their spouses, Ana and Joao Moura of Shelton, Celeste and Anthony Palumbo of Stratford, Maria and Bill Palumbo of Stratford, Julia and Louie Morelli of Trumbull, and sisters Lucie Joaquim of Stratford and Aurora Joaquim of Shelton; his daughter, Patience Joaquim Anderson; stepdaughter, Neala Cook; stepson, John Reynolds and his wife, Brandi; his mother, Irene Serra Joaquim of Stratford; and brother, Virgilio Correira and his wife, Georgiana, of Beacon Falls. He also leaves eight grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his father, Joao Joaquim; and three brothers and a sister.
Mr Joaquim was raised in Bridgeport and attended Bridgeport Public Schools and enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 18. He resided in North Carolina for the past 28 years. He was employed by IDG Cabinets.
Funeral services were held at Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury, N.C. Interment with military honors was in the Salisbury National Cemetery.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, September 6, at 7 pm, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Road, Bridgeport.
