Author Talk and Book Signing: Local author Thomas Craughwell will discuss his book, Stealing Lincolnâs Body on Tuesday, September 18, at 7:30 pm. With charm and authority, Thomas Craughwell offers an illuminating portrait of 19th Century America as he writes of the origins of the Secret Service, counterfeiting in America, the rambunctious growth of Chicago, and the assassination of the beloved president. Mr Cruaghwellâs book will be available for sale at the time of the talk.

 Independent Film Series: Something Like Happiness on Thursday, September 13 at 7 pm. Please note the date and time change! (Previously scheduled for Tuesday, September 11 at 7:30 pm) The story: While her boyfriend pursues wealth and success in America, Monika waits, ever-hopeful that he will arrange for her to join him. Tanik has fled his stifling conservative family and lives with an eccentric aunt. Together they struggle to defend her derelict farmhouse against the encroaching industrial development.
Searching for Shakespeare: The Shakespeare lecture series is kicking off in September with a discussion of the bardâs sonnets. Join us at Mocha Coffee House on Thursday, September 20, at 7 pm. Professor Bill OâConnell will moderate the discussion. Copies of the featured sonnets are available at the library. Please ask at the circulation desk. The play to be discussed in September will be Julius Caesar. Film Screening: Julius Caesar, 1953 (NR) starring Marlon Brando, Tuesday, September 11, 7 pm. Lecture: Led by Dr Mark Schenker, associate dean at Yale College, Tuesday, September 25, 7 pm. Play Discussion: Led by Newtowners Joyce Goldin and Peg Jacques, Tuesday, September 27, 7 pm. Childrenâs Programs
 The Results are In! Five hundred, thirty children registered for the C.H. Booth Library Summer Reading Program this year. Between June 26 and August 18 participants read a total of 7,339 books! That is amazing! The raffle winners have been notified by phone. If you received a call, please come to the childrenâs department as soon as possible to claim your prize. A special thanks to the businesses that made donations to this yearâs program. Your support really kept the children reading!
 Register for Fall Story Times: Registration for fall story times ends September 4. Classes are offered for ages 12â24 months on Thursday or Saturday at 10 am,/ 2- & 3-year-olds Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday at 10 am, Monday or Saturday at 11 am / 4- & 5-year-olds Tuesday at 11 am, Wednesday or Thursday at 1 pm. No phone registrations will be accepted. You must reside in Newtown to be eligible for this free program. Classes meet once weekly for 6 weeks beginning the week of September 10.  Exhibits: âOn the Road,â A photographic essay of the cross country bike trip taken by Faith and Peter Vicinanza will be on view September 5âSeptember 28. There will be an opening reception on September 9, 2 to 4 pm. The public is invited to attend.
 The Gala Stars â Local artists and illustrators donated their talent and decorated stars in celebration of the libraryâs 75th anniversary. The stars will be on display for a very short time from Friday, August 31, to Saturday, September 1, on the second floor of the library.
