Most of Connecticut's part-time state legislators spend their time outside, and often during state house sessions, working their so-called day jobs. The Newtown Bee. "With any achievement, team work is necessary and my work at the Stratford 911 center is no different. I am proud of all we have accomplished in the five years I have worked there and look forward to making much more progress in the years to come. Through hard work and collaboration, we can continue to provide the citizens and visitors of Stratford with the high level of public safety they deserve."

For Representative J.P. Sredzinski, whose 112th District encompasses several neighborhoods in southeastern Newtown, his top-flight work as a Stratford emergency communications specialist just earned him an international honor.

According to an August 15 release from NICE, a global provider of public safety solutions for 911 centers, Rep Sredzinski received one of five 2016 Public-Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Finest Awards, a global recognition program for emergency communications professionals, now in its 11th year. He was awarded Line Supervisor of the Year.

Awards are presented annually to individuals chosen as the Director, Line Supervisor, Technician, and Telecommunicator of the Year. New for 2016 was the addition of a category for PSAP of the Year.

"During my acceptance of the award, I thanked my colleagues, my management team, and the dispatchers that work for me," Rep Sredzinski told

Sponsored by NICE, the PSAP Finest awards recognizes individuals for their contributions to emergency communications. Any public safety communications professional from any agency is eligible to be nominated.

Winners are selected by a panel of judges from the 911 industry based on criteria such as years of service, exemplary contributions to their agency, innovative thinking and execution, depth of knowledge, dedication, and specific positive impacts to public safety communications in their communities.

"My role as the public safety dispatch supervisor for the Town of Stratford made me eligible for the line supervisor award," he said. "Being a part of the installation of the new NexGen CAD, overseeing the new 911 upgrade, managing the staff back to full staff, implementing NAED ProQA software and AED-link were all part of the reason for my nomination. Also, helping with the upgrading of the towns ISO rating was important as well."

Rep Sredzinski is currently running unopposed for reelection this November.
