To the Editor:The Bee for my interview regarding my candidacy for town clerk. My points were clearly stated; however, I feel some pertinent information was not addressed. As far as some background, I graduated from UConn with BS degree in business administration with a focus on human resource management. I worked in the executive recruiting field for ten years before moving to Newtown 25 years ago to raise my children. When it was time for me to go back to work full time, I became an assistant town clerk for the Town of Newtown for five years and subsequently have worked for Newtown Social Services for five years. During that time I was elected the borough clerk (a position I held for seven years prior to leaving this past May). I have been a clerk for many boards and commissions including Public Building & Site and Commission on Aging while following FOIA standards in posting agendas and minutes. In addition, I have been a notary public for ten years.

Many thanks to John Voket and

Three words describe my platform: Communication, Management and being Proactive. Communication within the town clerk's office is key; however, communication among town departments is what can make the town run efficiently. Time can be saved if employees are aware of services offered by all departments; this information then needs to be shared with the public.

Being proactive in responding to the needs of the community is extremely important. The best way to do so is to educate the public on what a town clerk's office provides and listen to their suggestions of what we can do better. We need to be proactive rather than reactive in order to be efficient.

Good management includes education, cross training, and listening to staff members and their concerns or suggestions. If your staff trusts you and is confident in their own abilities, it will translate to better customer service and morale will naturally increase.

Please take the time to vote on September 12; absentee ballots are available now if you are unable to vote in person and are a qualified registered Republican voter. Thank you in advance for your support.
