Police Reports August 18-24, 2013
Vandalism
On August 24, police said that they are investigating multiple vandalism incidents that had occurred during the preceding two weeks in the area of Hawthorne Hill Road/Saw Mill Ridge Road.
That property damage involved someone using spray paint to deface multiple vehicles and driveways.
Also, police said that overnight on August 23-24, someone using black spray paint defaced two vehicles that were parked near the Hawthorne Hill Road turnaround circle.
Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crimes to contact investigating Officer Scott Smith at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Jet Ski
Police report that a jet ski was found in Hawley Pond at the Ram Pasture off South Main Street on August 18. A jet ski is a self-propelled personal watercraft which the rider straddles like a motorcycle. Police are holding the jet ski for safekeeping and ask the owner to contact Officer Steven Siecienski at the police station at 3 Main Street to claim the device.
Church Hill Crash
A two-vehicle accident occurred at a driveway at the Blue Colony Diner at 66 Church Hill Road about 6:26 pm on August 18.
Police said that motorist Kimberly Bergeron, 52, of Woburn, Mass., who was driving a 2012 Ford Explorer SUV, was attempting to exit a driveway at the diner, as motorist Deborah Marsten, 58, of 9 New Lebbon Road was driving a 2012 BMW 328-XI station wagon eastward on Church Hill Road.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they gave Bergeron a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Traffic Stop
Police said that while on patrol at about 1:15 pm on August 24, they stopped motorist Roland Bomova, 49, of 35 Pocono Road to investigate near 100 Wasserman Way.
Police report that they charged Bomova with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving with a suspended license.
Police added that an electronic records review indicated that there was a pending warrant for Bomova, resulting in their charging him with three counts of issuing a bad check in connection with a January 9 incident.
Following processing, police released Bomova on a written promise to appear in court on September 10.
BMW Vs Tree
Motorist Mark Mozelak, 33, of New Hartford was driving a 2012 BMW 328-XI coupe westward near 55 Bears Hill Road at about 9 pm on August 15, when he lost control of the vehicle and it went off the left side of the street, striking a tree and then coming to rest near a stone wall, according to police.
Mozelak was not injured. Police report that they issued him an infraction for failure to keep to the right.
Jeep Vs GMC
Police report that an accident involving two SUVs occurred about 3 pm on August 23 in the area near 46 Church Hill Road.
Police said motorist William O’Keefe, 78, of New Fairfield was driving a 2004 GMC Envoy SUV eastward on Church Hill Road and then attempted to make a right turn into a driveway, but saw a traffic sign which prohibits entry there, so O’Keefe then sought to continue traveling eastward on Church Hill Road.
At that time, eastbound motorist D. Chawla, 50, of Seymour, who was driving a 2008 Jeep Commander SUV, was attempting to pass the GMC on the left, police said.
The two vehicles collided There were no injuries. Police said they issued Chawla an infraction for unsafe passing.
Warrant
Police report that on August 21, they arrested David Booth, 48, of 52 Lakeview Terrace on a warrant, charging him with fourth-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny in connection with May 1 incidents at a Botsford residence. Booth was released from custody by police on a written promise to appear in court on September 5.
Two Charges
Police said that on the night of August 24, they charged Joseph Wilson, 43, of 82 Hanover Road with driving with a suspended license and with driving an unregistered vehicle. Police said they released Wilson on a written promise to appear in court on September 12.
Warrant
State police report that on August 23, authorities at Garner Correctional Institution at 50 Nunnawauk Road learned that Heather Smith, 47, of Bridgeport, who was at the high-security prison at the time, was the subject of a pending warrant from Bridgeport Superior Court.
State police then charged Smith with second-degree failure to appear in court. Smith was released on $5,000 bail for a September 10 court appearance.
Highway Crash
State police said that motorist Daniel Grathwohl, 19, of Wolcott, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer SUV westward on Interstate 84 about 500 feet west of Exit 9 at about 5 pm on August 24, swerved to the right side of the road and then struck some guardcabling.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
I-84 Collision
At about 3:30 pm on August 24, motorist Elaine Dacosta, 53, of Basking Ridge, N.J., was driving a 2013 Honda Accord in the left lane of three lanes on eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 11, state police report.
At that time, motorist Omolola Adeoye, 22, of Decatur, Ill., was driving a 2011 Toyota Corolla in the center lane, state police said.
The Toyota then veered to the left and struck the Honda, state police said. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Windshield
State police report that at about 9:43 am on August 20, motorist John Malletta, Jr, 23, of Stonington was driving a 2006 Chevrolet K-3500 pickup truck westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, when a piece of debris fell off the back of the truck and struck the windshield of westbound motorist Lisa Belvedere-Santini, 45, of 44 Lake Road, who was driving a 2002 BMW 3-Series auto.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Sugar Street
Police report a one-vehicle accident on Sugar Street near its two intersections with Baldwin Road about 2:40 pm on August 25.
Police said that motorist Juan Carlos Vasquez, 30, of Danbury, who was driving on Sugar Street, made an evasive maneuver in order to avoid striking another vehicle, but resulting in Vasquez driving onto the lawn at 33 Sugar Street.
Police said that after investigating, they charged Vasquez with passing in a no-passing zone and driving with a suspended license.
After processing, police released Vasquez on $1,000 bail for a September 10 court appearance.
Three Violations
Newtown police report that at about 8 pm on August 26, they arrested Angelina Guilfoil, 25, of 7 Sugar Street on a warrant in Monroe, charging her with sixth-degree larceny, theft of a credit card, and illegal use of a credit card.
Police said that the charges stem from their investigation into an incident that occurred in Newtown earlier this year. Guilfoil was released on a written promise to appear in court on September 10, police said.
South Main Street
Motorist Robert White, 71, of New Fairfield was driving a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica SUV southward near 150 South Main Street about noon on August 25, when a deer entered the road, resulting in a collision, police said. White was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Flagpole Intersection
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street at about 3:25 pm on August 22, according to police.
In that incident, motorist George Collins, 24, of 2 Melody Lane, who was driving a 1996 Ford Mustang coupe southward on Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, police said.
Motorist Anne Schmidt, 67, of 12 Old Castle Road, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry sedan, was traveling westward on Church Hill Road, police report.
As the Toyota then attempted to cross through the intersection to reach West Street, the Toyota struck the Ford, police said. There were no injuries. Schmidt received a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign, police said.
Volvo Vs Toyota
At about 1:50 pm on August 22, motorist Caitlin Evans, 25, of Cazenovia, N.Y., who was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla southward near 76 South Main Street, stopped in preparing to make a left turn, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by a southbound 2001 Volvo S-80 sedan driven by Harrison Yochum, 19, of 41 The Boulevard, police said.
There were no injuries. Yochum received an infraction for following too closely, police said.
Mile Hill Road
Police said that at about 1 am on August 28, they stopped motorist Olivia Quimby, 18, of 42 Berkshire Road on Mile Hill Road, between its intersections with South Main Street and Queen Street, to investigate.
Police report they charged Quimby with creating excessive/unusual automotive noise and with driving under suspension.
Quimby was released on a written promise to appear in court on September 11.
Sandy Hook Accident
Motorist Stephen Maguire, 24, of Shelton was driving a 2013 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck westward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Pole Bridge Road, at about 7:45 am on August 27, when he stopped for traffic conditions, police report.
Westbound motorist Jeffrey McCauley, 28, of Somers, who was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Toyota, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned McCauley for following too closely.
