Third annual Newtown Road Race & Kids’ Fun Run, 9 am rain or shine (day-of registration opens 7:30 am), Dickinson Park, Elm Drive, 3.1-mile race will begin and end at park, Kids’ Fun Run will follow at 10:15, entry fee $20/full race advance registration, $25/day of, Kids’ Fun Run $5/child or $10/max per family, all proceeds to benefit Newtown Youth & Family Services; 426-6183, 270-4335.

Sandy Hook Village Farmers’ Market, 9 am–1 pm, 3-5 Glen Road, Sandy Hook, flowers, fruits and vegetables from local farmers, baked goods, nutritional seminars, monthly family activities, runs weekly until October 26; 426-2427.

LABOR DAY

47th Annual Labor Day Parade, steps off 10 am, Grand Marshal Mae Schmidle will lead parade with theme of “VNA — Keeping Newtown Healthy” from Currituck Road at Main Street, to Glover Avenue, to Queen Street, with local groups including fire companies, emergency services, groups and organizations, bands and more.

Sandy Hook Organic Farmers’ Market, 2–6 pm, behind St John’s Episcopal Church, Washington Avenue, local veggies and fruit, fresh baked goods, jams and handcrafted items, weekly activities for kids, also lectures and cooking demos, continues weekly to mid-October; 313-9908.
