Roads Closed For Parade
Residents are reminded that sections of some of the main roads in the center of town will be closed from 9 am until 1 pm on Monday, during the 47th Annual Newtown Labor Day Parade.
The parade route runs from Main Street at Currituck Road, turns onto and follows Glover Avenue, and then turns left onto Queen Street. After passing the judgesâ stand in front of Bank of America on Queen Street, the parade route concludes at the corner of Queen Street and Church Hill Road
These roads will all be closed to motor vehicle traffic after 9.
Additionally, sections of Currituck Road, Academy Lane and Martin Street â where marchers will be staging â will be blocked off by 9 am, and will remain so until the end of the parade.
Also, Church Hill Road will be inaccessible between its intersection with Queen Street and Main Street.
Residents are also reminded that with the current construction at the former Grand Union property, parking will be unavailable at that location this year, which will cut into the amount of car space available for spectators. The Labor Day Parade Committee is asking family, friends and neighbors to consider car pooling for Mondayâs event.
