Miller, Jr

Medical Doctor, Dentist, And Railroad Aficionado

John P. Miller, Jr, MD and DDS, 91, of Main Street, Newtown, died August 25 at his home. Dr Miller was the husband of Dolores-Ann (Serfilippo) Miller. He was born in Asbury Park, N.J., February 24, 1917, a son of John P. and Amelia (Zuegner) Miller.

Dr Miller was a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, and Yale Medical School. During World War II he served in the US Army Air Corps assigned to a MASH unit.

Dr Miller had a dentistry practice in Stratford for many years, until his retirement in 1972. Also during this period, he ran the Stratford Children’s Medical Clinic.

A resident of Newtown since 1952, he was the founder of the Veteran Motor Car Club and was a member of the Pioneer Valley Steam Railroad Club. From 1972 to 1985, Dr Miller was the owner and president of the Narragansett Pier Railroad.

In addition to his wife, Dr Miller is survived by two sons, Robert G. Miller of Newtown and John P. Miller III of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, Dr Robert G. Miller of Clinton, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled in St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, for Friday, August 29, at 11 am. Interment will be private. Calling hours were scheduled at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, for Thursday, August 28, from 5 to 8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spay and Neuter Association of Newtown, PO Box 352, Newtown CT 06470.
