Church Family Is Helping Prepare Annual St Peter’s Apple Festival

MONROE — As leaves begin to change color and kids prepare to go back to school, St Peter’s On-The-Green Episcopal Church will host its annual Apple Festival. This year’s event, which will feature crafters, kids’ games and homemade pies, will be held Saturday, September 6, from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, September 7, from 11 am to 4 pm, on historic Monroe Green, Route 111.

This year’s festival will feature crafters from several states displaying their wares, including clothing, jewelry, home decor, gourmet food products, baseball cards, painted pottery, quilted totes and purses, pet items, gift baskets, and airbrush tattoos to name a few. The Country Kitchen will be back with more than 600 homemade pies, tarts, cookies, cupcakes, and other baked goods for sale.

Apple Central will sell caramel apples, fresh apples and apple cider, as well as a number of apple-themed gift items. Also for sale will be more than 300 hardy mums and asters in a riot of beautiful fall colors.

St Peter’s is a small parish of about 150 families and it takes a concerted effort by all to hold a tow-day event of this size, which attracted more than 1,000 people last year. All the baked goods are made by members of the parish.

“The apple festival represents a year’s worth of planning and hard work by the members of this congregation,” said St Peter’s Rector, the Rev Kurt Huber.

Homemade apple crisp and apple tarts with ice cream will be served in the parish hall both days from 11 am to 3 pm, where local artists will exhibit their work.

Children’s games will be held on the town green by the gazebo and will include two moon bounces, face painting and a variety of new games and prizes for the kids. Willy The Clown will be available for pictures.

Hungry fairgoers can quench their thirsts and quell their appetites at the Snack Bar. The fair will culminate on Sunday with a raffle. Tickets for a chance to win a hand-held play station, American Express gift card, and Sunoco gas cards will be available throughout the two-day event.

St Peter’s stands at 175 Old Tannery Road, across the street from the town green. For additional information call Judy Hamilton in the church office, 268-4265.
