Basic Horse Care Evening Course Starts September 8

WATERBURY – Post University’s Equine Department’s six Equine Husbandry courses begin on September 8.

The course is an opportunity for horse lovers and owners who wish to gain more knowledge on correct horse care, but do not need to take a full four-year college course. These courses may be taken in any order and are open to anyone interested (no prerequisites are required). Classes run for eight weeks, three hours per week in the evening. Students may earn either Continuing Education Units credits or gain personal enrichment. The first course in the series of six — Basic Horse Care – will be held from September 8 through October 27 from 6:30-9:20 pm at the Waterbury Campus in Drubner 211 (exit 17 off I-84).

These courses cover the necessary information horse owners require to keep their horses happy and healthy. Basic Horse Care will cover such topics as Feeding and Nutrition, Exercise and Conditioning, Evaluating Hay, Stable Routine, Parasites, Vaccination Protocols, and Safety Procedures. The other courses which will run once each week for eight weeks are: Stable Management I & II, Equine Anatomy, Equine Health and Horse Ownership.

To earn CEU credits the cost is $500, but if no credit is required, the cost is $350.

To register, or for more information, call the Equine Management Department at Post University at 203-596-463 or send an e-mail to: CBaker@post.edu.
