A Short Learning Curve
A Short Learning Curve
To the Editor:
Those in support, like me, of state representative candidate Will Rodgers often tout his experience as one of his chief selling points. I write today to elaborate on that subject.
Most people probably think of Willâs familiarity with Newtownâs needs, financial and otherwise, and its governmental processes as part of his experience, and it is certainly true that as the chair of the Legislative Council for five years and the chair of the councilâs Ordinance Committee before that, his experience does include that knowledge.
What people may not realize, though, is that Will has dealt extensively with Newtownâs existing state legislative delegation, consisting of three Republicans: State Senator John McKinney, Representative DebraLee Hovey, and outgoing Representative Julia Wasserman, who Will now seeks to succeed. He has drafted and revised proposed and actual legislation with them, and cooperated in advancing various interests of Newtown, budgetary and nonbudgetary. Moreover, as an attorney heâs had the occasion to deal frequently with various state departments on a variety of issues. He enjoys a good relationship with the governor.
With Will, Newtown would get a freshman legislator possessing knowledge and contacts that would shorten his âlearning curveâ in Hartford considerably. Those qualities would operate to Newtownâs benefit. Please join me in voting to send him to Hartford this fall.
