Recht Appointed To Legislative Council

Chairman Donald Studley has announced that on August 20 Richard Recht of 11 Tunnel Road was appointed by a majority of the Republican members of the Legislative Council to fill the vacancy in District 1 created by the resignation of William Meyer.

The vacancy was filled in accordance with section 2-40(a) of the town’s charter.

Under the charter, the action must be taken within 30 days after the vacancy occurs.

Mr Recht, who has been a resident of Newtown for 27 years, is retired from a division of Eaton Corp in Bethel. A candidate for District 1 in the November election, Mr Recht will complete Mr Meyer’s term, which expires on December 1.

Mr Meyer resigned effective August 1 because he was moving out of town.
