Orienteering Club Season-Opener On Sept. 6
DANBURY â The public is invited to join Western Connecticut Orienteering Club members on Saturday, September 6, at Tarrywile Park, for its first event of the fall 2003 season. Ed White of Danbury will be setting up the event.
Participants will use an orienteering map and compass to find their way across the terrain seeking orange and white flags at various land features. The features are marked on the map and act as checkpoints along the course.
Participants decide on the route to the feature and punch a score card to confirm finding the flag. In orienteering as a competition, the winner punches all the flags in the shortest time. At Tarrywile, all standard courses from beginner to expert will be available. Instruction and training will be available for beginners.
Registration begins at 10 am, and participants can start any time before noon. Cost is $6 per person. For additional information call 860-658-7963, visit www.faculty.Fairfield.edu/RDewitt/WCOC, or send email to wallegg@mindspring.com. Tarrywile Parkâs main entrance is on Southern Boulevard, opposite Immaculate High School.
