Occupation: I got my degree in labor relations at Roosevelt University in Chicago, but I've been working in marketing and promoting consumer package goods ever since.
Occupation: I got my degree in labor relations at Roosevelt University in Chicago, but Iâve been working in marketing and promoting consumer package goods ever since.
Currently, I commute to Stamford. I work full-time for a community promotion agency on the Kraft account. I also do freelance work.
My first job was working for Phillip Morris in New York City, at their Park Avenue headquarters.
In 1991, I moved to Nashville, Tenn., and stayed there for nine years working in the country music industry doing promotions and events. I liked it there, though Iâm really not a country music fan. But I did learn that country music is a lot more complex than most people think. Itâs all about telling a story through song. Itâs really an art form.
That was where I met my husband, Scott. He was playing guitar. Now, he works for the National Shooting Sports Foundation here in Newtown.
How Long In Newtown: We moved to Newtown in 2000. We live on Chestnut Hill Road in Sandy Hook.
Â
Biggest Change You Have Seen In Town: Even in just the three years that we have been here, Iâve noticed how much more traffic there is, especially where we live off Route 34.
Â
Hobbies: I love baking, and I enjoy walking the dogs. We go out every day, even in the winter.
Â
Pets: We have two dogs, a 9-year-old Siberian husky named Sabrina, and a 10-year-old mutt named Mandy that we rescued from the pound.
The husky loves our Connecticut winters. She hated it in Nashville.
Â
Organizations: I belong to the Newtown Business and Professional Womenâs Club (BPW) and have volunteered as recording secretary in charge of the newsletter and minutes.
I look forward to working on the Annual Holiday Festival as co-chair of their gala ball and fundraiser dinner December 7.
Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: It is definitely the 2001 Labor Day Parade. I tell everyone about it. I remember that big flag and waving at my neighbors. It felt like a real down home community.
Itâs so quaint here. I always feel like Iâm on vacation. I love my backyard. I never lived in a rural place before, and I like seeing all the turkey and the deer.
In a rural community, thereâs so much more to think about than in a city ââ your well, for example, and your oil tank. I miss the 24-hour grocery stores.
Â
Favorite Vacation Spot: We like Mexico, especially a place called âRoyal Hideawaysâ at the Playa Del Carmen, south of Cancun. We got the idea from the Food Network, when they did a special on spa food. They really pamper you there.
Â
Personal Philosophy: I believe everything happens for a reason and you must stay positive no matter what you are going through. When one door closes, another one opens. Donât dwell on the negative. Try to find the positive. And thereâs no such thing as a mistake. Itâs a learning experience.
