LVA Reports Safe Summer On The Lake
Lake Zoar Authority Commissioner Bill Soracin of Newtown said that with the summer almost over, he is happy to report there have been only minor boating infractions, and no serious accidents, on the lake this year.
The Lake Zoar Marine Police, headed by Chief Joseph L. Steinfeld of Sandy Hook, patrol the 11-mile-long lake, an impoundment of the Housatonic River between Shepaug Dam and Stevenson Dam, on Saturdays, Sundays, and some weekday afternoons during the summer.
The aquatic weed harvester has been busy trying to keep up with this yearâs growth. The LVA has purchased a new week harvester with delivery expected the week of August 25. With both machines working, the authority expects to have better control of the weed growth.
Water quality testing has been in place. Anyone who has questions should contact the Newtown Health District. Maps of Lake Zoar are available at the town hall, courtesy of the LVA. Member towns in the LVA include Monroe, Newtown, Oxford, and Southbury.
âLetâs keep boating safety in mind with the coming holiday and the rest of the summer,â Mr Soracin said.
