Anna S. Harrison, 97, of Southbury, died Friday, August 22, in the East Hill Woods Health Care Center. She was the widow of Edwin John Harrison of Havertown, Penn., and the mother of Edwin John Harrison, Jr, of Newtown.
She was predeceased by her sister, Marie Anderson, and her brothers, Albert and Carl Peterson.
Anna Ingaborg Sophia Harrison was born February 13, 1906, in Philadelphia, Penn., the daughter of Christian and Alabama (Saunders) Peterson. She was educated in the Philadelphia schools and was a teller at the Girard Trust Corn Exchange Bank before her marriage in 1937.
Mrs Harrison was always active in church groups, including Pritchard Memorial Lutheran Church in West Philadelphia, and later, Trinity Lutheran Church in Havertown, Penn., where she participated in the choir, ladiesâ circles, and Sunday school programs. She was also an active member of the Westgate Womanâs Club. She traveled extensively in Europe, the Mideast, and Asia in the 1960s and 1970s, before settling in Southbury in 1979 to be near her sonâs family.
Mrs Harrison enjoyed poetry and collecting china, antique dolls, and teddy bears, but her family was the center of her life, especially her grandchildren Derek and Trent Harrison, and her great-grandson Owen Harrison.
She was âGrandmaâ to her nephew Arnold Andersonâs children, grandnieces Karen, Kristin, and Jennifer, and to her great-grandnieces Kathryn and Anna and her great-grandnephew Derien.
Her daughter-in-law Beryl Harrison, and her nephewâs wife, Linda Anderson, were both like daughters to her.
Mrs Harrisonâs family and friends will remember her sense of humor, her love of life, and her many stories of growing up in an immigrant Swedish family with all of its fables and traditions.
A memorial service will be held at East Hill Woods, Thursday, September 4, at 10:30 am.
Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia.
