New Mormon Temple To Serve Local Members
New Mormon Temple To
Serve Local Members
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has recently completed construction of its Boston Temple â a temple that will serve members living in New England, including about 480 in the Danbury area.
Until the Boston Temple was built, the nearest temple for members in this area was in Washington, DC. âHaving access more readily available is a great blessing for us,â said Bishop Gary Hutchison of Newtown. âThe new temple will cut travel time in half for our members.â
Beginning the first week in September, people will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend an open house to tour the newly completed building, to learn of its purpose, and to ask questions. After the open house, the Temple will be dedicated and closed to the public.
âTemples differ from the thousands of regular church houses of worship,â Bishop Hutchison said. âThey are not for weekly services, but are set aside for sacred ordinances that unite the family for eternity.â
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a global faith, with more than ten million members in more than 150 countries. The Boston Temple will be the 100th temple for the church worldwide.
