*OLD SCHOOL — the duo of Tony Summo and Lou Bellofatto — will return to Proud Mary’s at The Inn at Newtown tonight (Friday, August 28). Tony plays guitar, Lou does the keyboards thing, and they bring along custom recorded tracks to give them a full band sound.

*Also this weekend in Newtown, HAT CITY BLUES BAND will be at The One-Eyed Pig on Saturday night. Showtime is 9:30 pm.

*Rock legend RICK DERRINGER and 2009 Prism Award winning SELFISH STEAM will rock for one of the nation’s oldest recovery community organizations when they perform on Friday, September 11, at The Bushnell in Hartford.

Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) will be celebrating its tenth annual Recovery Walks! Event on September 26. To coincide with that, and just in time for National Alcohol and Drug Recovery Month in September, Derringer and Selfish Steam will, as I said, be in Hartford for a concert.

Tickets for the 7 pm show are $35 and $55, and can be reserved by calling 860-987-5900 or visiting CCAR.us.

*KISS will being its Kiss Alive 35 show to Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, October 3, and tickets for that show will be going on sale Saturday morning.

Buckcherry will be opening. Tickets are $75 and $95, and will be available through TicketMaster vendors on Saturday and then also through the casino’s box office beginning Sunday if the show hasn’t sold out.

*Finally this week, I know I don’t usually highlight concerts that take place outside Connecticut, but I’m going to make my annual exception with a reminder that The Big E is returning in just a few weeks and there are a number of concert opportunities in West Springfield during the two week-plus event.

The one concert that needs tickets, SUGARLAND on October 2, are already sold out but there are a handful of free concerts that you may have better luck with. The Comcast Arena seats 6,000 people on a first-come, first-served basis.

This year’s Big E line-up includes FOGGAT on Saturday, September 19, at 8 pm; BOYZ II MEN on Sunday, September 20, 7 pm; LITTLE BIG TOWN on Saturday, September 26, 8 pm; JAMEY JOHNSON on Sunday, September 27, at 7 p; BRETT MICHAELS’s Rock of Love Tour on Saturday, October 3, at 8 pm; and SEETHER on Sunday, October 4, at 7 pm.

Full details including directions can be found at TheBigE.com or you can call 413-205-5115.

Until next week, I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
