Learning Differences Support Group Forming

Does your child struggle with academics?

Have you spent many hours trying to help them “understand” their homework only to end up feeling just as frustrated as they are?

Are you watching as your child self esteem plummets?

Does your child have a learning difference?

In the early spring of 2009 the Learning Differences Support Group was formed for parents just like you. We will be starting off the new school year with a meeting on Thursday, September 3, at 7 pm at Newtown Youth & Family Services.

“I formed this group to help parents by supplying pertinent information, having relevant guest speakers, and most important, having the ability to network with other parents,” said Suzanne Lang. Plans are in the works to have speakers that will inform the group about everything from assistive technology to understanding a child’s evaluation.

The C.H. Booth Library has ordered an assortment of new books pertaining to a variety of learning differences and has been working with Ms Lang to make a reference pamphlet that will give a brief description of each book, as well as a list of resources for parents and children.

“There is a tremendous amount of information and support out there; it’s just a matter of finding it and passing it along to others. Every child needs a well-informed advocate, and by helping parents to be informed, it increases the chance that their child will become a successful adult.”
