Charles Wilbur Anderson

World War II Navy Veteran

Charles Wilbur “Will” Anderson, 88, a longtime resident of Newtown, died August 25, at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Lillian Mary (Schimansky) Anderson. Mr Anderson was born in Bridgeport, April 5, 1921, a son of Benny Matilda (Jacobson) and Karl A. Anderson.

He was raised in Croton Falls, N.Y., and was a graduate of Croton Falls High School. Mr Anderson was a World War II Navy veteran who served aboard the destroyer-escort USS Smart as a machinist first class. He was a former supervisor for Bard-Parker Co. and for Becton, Dickinson and Company.

Mr Anderson was a Mason and was a member of St John’s Lodge #6 of Norwalk.

He was devoted to his family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mr Anderson is survived by his twin daughters, Karen Vagnini and her husband, Michael, of Woodbury and Linda Morse and her husband, Timothy, of Washington. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A son, Brian Anderson, predeceased Mr Anderson.

Funeral services and interment in Newtown Village Cemetery will be private. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
