 Labor Day Book Sale
The annual Booth Library Labor Day Book Sale is celebrating its 26th year with thousands of books in 70 categories. Books as well as records, games, puzzles, software, and delicious refreshments will all be on sale. The sale at Bridgeport Hall on the Fairfield Hills campus will be on Saturday, September 1, from 9 am to 5 pm; Sunday, September 2, from 10 am to 5 pm; Monday, from 9 am to 4:30 pm; Tuesday, 2 to 6 pm; and Wednesday, 10 am to 4 pm. An admission fee will be charged on Saturday only. Please call the library at 426-4533 or check the Web site for more information.
Book Sale Bake Sale
Anyone interested in baking for the bake sale at the Labor Day Book Sale may bring their baked goods directly to the sale at Fairfield Hills on the mornings of Saturday, September 1, through Monday, September 3. We need brownies, cookies, rice crispy treats, pies, and anything youâd like to share.
New Videos
The library now has a modest selection of videos available for people with limited vision. In these videos a narrator describes the action. The ratings of these movies range from âGâ to âR.â The videos are shelved in the large print room on the second floor and may be checked out for three weeks.
Childrenâs Programs
Summer Reading Program: The summer reading program has officially ended as of August 18. Winners of the Middle School Madness raffle have been notified by phone. Congratulations to all who participated in this yearâs program. You are all winners because you are readers!
Story Hour Registration: Registration for fall story times begins August 27 and continues through September 5. Four sessions for two year olds and their caregivers will be offered Monday through Thursday, from 10 to 10:30 am; 3-5 year olds meet Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoons, from 1 to 1:30 pm, or Thursday morning from 11 to 11:45 am. Registration forms will be made available at the library on August 27. No phone registrations will be accepted.
Adult Programs
Daytime Book Group: Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro will be discussed in the Special Collections room on the third floor from 1 to 2:30 pm on Monday, September 10. Here is the tragic spiritual portrait of a perfect English butler and his reaction to his fading insular world in post-war England. A wonderful book. Please join us for lively discussion.
Evening Book Group: The evening book group will be starting up again on Thursday, September 20, at 7:30 pm. The book to be discussed will be Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier. Please call the library at 426-4533 if you have any questions.
Poetry Reading: On Saturday, September 8, at 2 pm Doris Henderson and Janet Krauss, two local poets, will be giving a poetry reading in the meeting room. The public is invited to attend.
Yoga: Ricky Ayers will once again be offering a yoga class Thursdays, beginning September 13, from 4:45 to 6:15 pm. Call Ricky directly for more details at 757-4150.
Partners in Crime: A Mystery Book Discussion Series: This book discussion will explore the relationships of three very different mystery solving couples. On September 25, the title will be A Catskill Eagle by Robert Parker; October 16, Bitter Feast by S.J. Rozan, and on October 30, Evil Angels Among Them by Kate Charles. All discussions will take place at 7:30 pm in the Special Collections room on the third floor. Some copies of the titles are available at the library.
