Ukrainian Festival Returning Sunday
The 45th annual Ukrainian Festival is scheduled for Sunday, August 29, at Paproski’s Castle Hill Farm pumpkin patch, 25 Sugar Lane. The festival will take place rain or shine.
Admission is free. Parking is $5 per vehicle, and plenty of parking is available.
The event begins with an 11 am Divine Liturgy celebrated by Father Ivan Mazuryk, pastor of Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church of Bridgeport.
The Ukrainian Kitchen will then open, with varenyky (pyrogies), holubchi (stuffed cabbage), kobassa (kielbasa) with kapusta (fried cabbage) made by the parish women, along with picnic-style food, liver and onion sandwiches, and homemade desserts.
Entertainment will begin at 2 pm with lively Ukrainian folk dances by the Kolynonka Ukrainian Dance Group of Stamford. Internationally known Ukrainian singer and recording artist Iryna Lonchyna will perform next, singing traditional folk songs.
There will also be an exhibit of Ukrainian arts and crafts, and vendors selling Ukrainian artifacts, including embroidered blouses, ceramics, icons, etc.
Other activities throughout the day will include volleyball and horseshoe tournaments, hay rides, and a petting zoo.
Zabava (dance) music will begin at 4 pm.
