Newtown Babe Ruth Youth Softball travel tryouts for the next spring season will take place on Sunday, August 30, at Newtown Middle School’s field. Travel A and B teams are offered, and there are several openings, especially for U12 and U14 squads.

Tryout schedule is as follows: U10: Registration 8-8:15 am; tryouts 8:15-9:30 am. U11/U12: Registration 9:30-9:45; tryouts 9:45-11 pm. U14/U16: Registration 11-11:15 am; tryouts 11:15 am- 12:30 pm.

Details for Travel A and B programs are as follows:

Travel A is a competitive travel team; practices start after Labor Day; school will take priority over Travel scheduling. A fall season schedule will be designed to avoid overlap with the Recreation program. Spring schedule intensity and structure will not accommodate Rec program play. There will be paid coaches. Season will include 25-30 games; minimum four tournaments (U10), minimum five tournaments (U11/U12), minimum six tournaments U14/U16. There will be eight travel team practices at the NYA Sports & Fitness from January through March. Each team will do their own fundraising and that money will go back to the team to pay for the winter practices and possible money back.

Travel B is a competitive travel team with a less demanding schedule than that of Travel A. School will take priority over Travel scheduling. A second tryout for Travel B will be offered in the spring if space is available. The fall season schedule will be designed to avoid overlap with the Rec program. The spring season schedule will be designed to permit player participation in the Rec program. There will be paid coaches.

Travel team costs are as follows: U10 A $775; U10 B $450. U11 A 875; U12 A $900; U12 B $500; U14 A $900; U14 B $450.
