Toastmasters Contests To Be Sept. 14
Newtown Toastmasters, in continuing to promote personal development, has announced that on Tuesday, September 14, at 7 pm, it will conduct its Annual Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contests. The event is free and open to the public.
The Humorous Speech Competition involves participants delivering a five- to seven-minute speech that relays a humorous story or scenario. It is not meant to be a series of jokes as in the late night television opening monologues. Contestants are judged on composition, presentation, and timing.
In addition, there will also be an Evaluation Contest in which participants will deliver a two- to three-minute evaluation on a target speaker. Each evaluator will provide insight on the strength of the presentation and suggestions on how the speech can be improved. Judges will score evaluations based on analytical quality, recommendations, and technique. Listening to the evaluations provides an opportunity for everyone to consider their own speaking style.
The contest will be in the Parks and Recreation Conference Room at Town Hall South, 3 Main Street. Newtown Toastmasters can be reached at 203-313-5507 and newtowntoastmasters@yahoo.com.
