Celebrate 18th Century Danbury
DANBURY â On August 28, from 10 am to 2 pm, reenactors will present living portraits of Danbury life in the 18th Century, in the museum buildings and on the museum grounds of Danbury Museum & Historical Society, 43 Main Street.
Open hearth cooking demonstrations, âspycraftâ Revolutionary War-style, tinsmithing, colonial dancing, and other activities will take place during the event.Â
At 3, there will be a headstone rededication of Revolutionary War hero Major Frederick J. Whiting at Wooster Street Cemetery, just a short distance from the museum. Major Whiting was a Danbury resident and was the adjutant to Colonel Elisha Sheldon, commander of the Second Continental Light Dragoons. He was in Newburgh, N.Y., with General Washington at the formation of the Society of the Cincinnati.Â
The rededication and a libation ceremony will be conducted by the present day Second Continental Light Dragoons.
