Beth El Synagogue To Hold Pre-High Holy Day Selichot Service

SOUTHBURY — A meditative, musical service of Selichot (forgiveness) will be held on Friday, September 3, at Beth El Synagogue at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North.

Traditional chants, inspiring song, reflective readings, and meditations will set the mood for the upcoming High Holy Days. Flutist Harold Shapiro of Guilford will accompany Cantor Sharon Citrin to introduce some poignant melodies of the High Holy Days. During the service, Beth El board members will be honored with the ceremonial dressing of the Torahs in their white High Holy Day mantles.

“The weeks preceding Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur provide a time of reflection on our deeds of the past year and prepare us for the High Holy Days, in which we seek forgiveness from God and one another,” said Rabbi Eliana Falk. “This service will offer a calm and gentle moment for quiet refection in which we may open our hearts and minds in love so we may learn and grow.”

All are welcome to attend the service, which will begin at 7:30 pm and will be followed by refreshments.

The Selichot service begins Beth El’s calendar of High Holy Day services. Services for the two days of Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidrei, and Yom Kippur morning will be held at the Heritage Hotel in Southbury. The Rosh Hashanah evening service and Yom Kippur afternoon and closing Neilah services will be held at Beth El Synagogue.

Adult tickets are $100, while ages 18 and under will be admitted for free.  For a detailed service schedule and ticket information, call 203-264-4500.
