A New Addition To Piano Workshop Faculty

Julie Cook, director of Julie’s Piano Workshop, has announced the addition of pianist and elementary school teacher Jill Bracksieck to the faculty this fall. She will be teaching private piano lessons at the studio, located at 111 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook.

Mrs Bracksieck won a national grant in 2003 to teach math concepts through piano instruction to her second graders at Calf Pen Meadow Elementary School in Milford. Using piano keyboards and music and math software, she developed a program to integrate math and music.

“I’m always looking for ways to use relevant research to improve my teaching and reach students,” she said. “I’m excited about developing kids’ love of piano at the Workshop — and showing them how so many different subjects relate to music.”

Mrs Bracksieck grew up in a musical family in Fairfield. Her mother and father were both pianists and her siblings played a variety of instruments. Music was a part of everyday life when she was growing up, with the family often playing and singing together. Her hope is to inspire her piano students to the lifelong love of music that she enjoys.

Jill, her husband Matt, and their two children recently relocated to Sandy Hook. They are looking forward to settling in and enjoying all that the town has to offer.

Julie’s Piano Workshop has served Newtown and surrounding towns for 27 years. The studio offers private piano lessons and voice lessons for children and adults.  Students attend a monthly “Develop Your Chops!” class to hone their skills and share what they’ve learned or composed.

They perform at area nursing homes and participate in a Spring Piano Celebration.

Those wishing more information about lessons can contact Ms Cook at 203-426-7924.
