HISTORIC NEW ENGLAND BOOK WINS HISTORY AWARD OF MERIT

avv/gs set 8/27/07 #710291

BOSTON, MASS. — The American Association for State and Local History’s (AASLH) Leadership in History Awards Committee selected Historic New England’s book The Camera’s Coast, Historic Images of Ship and Shore in New England as a 2007 Award of Merit winner. The AASLH Leadership in History Awards is the nation’s most prestigious competition for recognition of achievement in state and local history.

The Camera’s Coast is the inaugural volume in Historic New England’s new publications series. Enhanced with witty and informative captions, black and white images from Historic New England’s collection of historic maritime photographs supplement a diverse array of colorful ephemera — old postcards, advertisements, posters, steamer tickets and more — that give context and subtle commentary on the subjects depicted in the photographs.

The Camera’s Coast: Historic Images of Ship and Shore in New England contains 144 pages, with 252 black and white photographs and color illustrations. The cost is $29.95; Historic New England member price is $26.95. To order, call 617-227-3957, extension 237, or www.historicnewengland.org.

The AASLH Leadership in History Awards was initiated in 1945 to establish and encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation and interpretation of state and local history. Awards for 2007 represent 72 organizations and individuals from the United States.
