SUV Into Bridge

Motorist Ian T. Schumaker, 19, of Trumbull was driving a 1994 Jeep Cherokee westward on Botsford Hill Road about 8:30 pm August 17, when while negotiating a curve, he lost control of the vehicle and struck a bridge abutment for the Housatonic Railroad overpass, police said.

Schumaker was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Honda Hit

Motorist Brent Caldwell, 42, of Danbury was driving a 2003 Honda Accord sedan northward on Queen Street and then stopped at a red traffic signal at its intersection with Church Hill Road about 12:13 pm August 15, police said.

While stopped, the Honda was hit from behind by a tow truck, which then drove off, police said.

Caldwell was not injured. No enforcement was taken. Police are investigating.

Minivan Vs Deer

Motorist Richard Adams-Shepherd, 55, of 64 Main Street was driving a 2002 Toyota Sienna minivan westward on Church Hill Road about 11:43 am August 15, when a deer ran into the side of the vehicle, police said.

Adams-Shepherd was not injured. No enforcement action was taken.

Rear-Ender

Northbound motorist Amanda Cannata, 20, of 13 Appleblossom Lane, who was driving a 1998 Saturn SL-2 sedan, was stopped on South Main Street and waiting to make a left turn onto Appleblossom Lane about 5 pm August 14, when Cannata was struck from behind by motorist Tyler Wright, 36, of 2 Taunton Lane, who was driving a 2001 Hyundai Elantra sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Wright for following too closely.

Obtuse DUI

Motorist Leon A. Rotunda, 19, of Brookfield was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker sport-utility vehicle southward on Obtuse Road about 12:17 am August 21, when while negotiating a curve, he lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole. Rotunda was not injured, police said.

Police said they gave Rotunda sobriety field tests, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and driving a vehicle without automotive insurance.

Rotunda is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Church Hill/Queen

Motorist Matthew Garbarino, 22, of 109 Castle Hill Road was driving a 2003 Subaru Impreza westward on Church Hill Road about 9:12 pm August 19, when the Subaru collided with an unidentified vehicle that then turned from westbound Queen Street onto southbound Queen Street, police said.

Garbarino stopped on Church Hill Road and the other driver stopped on Queen Street to inspect the collision damage, police said. The driver who turned onto Queen Street then drove off, police said. Garbarino was not injured, police said. The accident is under investigation.

Subaru Off Road

Motorist Marcel Leroi, 62 of Southbury, who was driving a Subaru Impreza, was traveling westward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Saw Mill Road, about 11:47 am August 16 when he applied his brakes and went into a skid, went off the right road shoulder, traveled down an embankment and struck several trees, police said. Leroi was uninjured, according to police.

During the accident investigation, police discovered there had been an oil slick on the road. A state highway truck was called in to sand the street. Hawleyville firefighters went to the accident. Police took no enforcement.

U-Turn Crash

Motorist Margaret Brown, 48, of Monroe was driving a 2000 Acura 3.5-RL sedan eastward on Route 34 near Toddy Hill Road about 8:12 pm August 19, when she encountered a section of Route 34 that was closed to traffic due to an earlier accident near Pole Bridge Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Tara Kortze, 37, of 52 Cobblers Mill Road was driving a 2001 Audi A-6 sedan westward on Route 34, police said.

On seeing a detour, Brown made a U-turn, resulting in a collision with Kortze, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Brown a written warning for making an improper turn.

VW Vs Scion

Motorist Lynn Serra, 50, of Stamford, who was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Passat sedan westward on Church Hill Road about 5:50 pm August 19, was making a left turn into the Blue Colony Diner parking lot, police said.

While making that turn, the Volkswagen collided with eastbound motorist Justin Laribee, 19, of Watertown, who was driving a 2005 Scion XB sport-utility vehicle, police said.

Police issued Serra a written warning for making an improper turn and failure to carry an automotive insurance identification card.

I-84 Collision

State police report a three-car accident on westbound Interstate 84, about 3,000 feet east of Exit 11, about 9:17 am August 16.

Involved in the crash were Emilio Tavarez, 41, of New York City, who was driving a 1997 Toyota sedan; Henry Quenn, III, 41, of East Hampton, who was driving a 2003 Toyota sedan, and Timothy Sweeney, 57, of Horsham, Penn., who was driving a 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-320 sedan, state police said.

State police said that Tavarez made an unsafe lane change, and that Sweeney was following too closely.

Currituck Rear-Ender

Motorist Gregory Huhn, 51, of 3 Turkey Roost Road, who was driving a 2003 Mazda Tribute sport-utility vehicle southward on Currituck Road about 2:12 pm August 22, stopped at a stop sign at Currituck Road’s intersection with Main Street, police said.

Huhn then began to pull away from the stop sign, but stopped again, and was struck from behind by motorist Rodney Rowe, 50, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1995 GMC pickup truck, police  said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Rowe a written warning for following too closely.

Four Charges

Police report they charged motorist Sarah O’Neill, 23, of Danbury with four motor vehicle violations on August 23. Police charged O’Neill with traveling too fast, driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to notify the state Department of Motor Vehicles of an address change. Police released O’Neill on $50 bail for a September 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant

After learning that police held a court warrant for his arrest, Kevin Miller, 24, of 21 Indian Hill Lane turned himself over to them at the police station on August 25 and was charged with fifth degree larceny in connection with an incident that occurred earlier this year, police said.

Police released Miller on $100 bail for a September 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Five Charged

Police said they received a report that a vehicle was being driven on baseball fields at Fairfield Hills about 11:58 pm August 25, so they went to investigate.

Police said they found five male youths attempting to enter Cochran House there. Police charged each of the five with simple trespassing. All of the five are from Hamden.

Police charged Joseph Ecolano, 16, Ryan Nelson, 17, and Michael Morgillo, Jr, 16. Each of the three received infraction tickets.

Police referred two 15-year-old boys to Juvenile Court authorities.
