Sleep Disorders Affect The Heart

TRUMBULL — Physicians from Bridgeport Hospital will explain the relationship between sleep disorders and heart disease during the free lecture, “A Good Night’s Sleep: It Doesn’t Have to Be an Impossible dream!” 7 pm Tuesday, August 31, at the Marriott Hotel, 180 Hawley Lane, Trumbull.

“Most people know that lack of sleep can make you groggy and grouchy but it can also increase your risk of heart attack and stroke,” said Dr Gilead Lancaster, medical director of noninvasive cardiology at Bridgeport Hospital and one of the speakers at the August 31 lecture.

Dr Lancaster will be joined by Dr Herbert Scherzer, medical director of The Center for Sleep Medicine at Bridgeport Hospital, who will help explain how treatments for disorders such as snoring and obstructive sleep apnea can lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease.
