Plane Crash Victim

Was Being Investigated By FBI

OXFORD (AP) — A Newtown businessman who died in a plane crash last month was being investigated by the FBI, the Connecticut Post reported last week.

Michael Keilty, 40, was a passenger in a plane flying from Oxford to Ticonderoga, N.Y. The plane crashed July 10 about six miles from the airport, in a remote area outside Putnam Pond State Campground in Ticonderoga.

Ticonderoga Police Chief Jeff Cooke told the newspaper that FBI agents from Connecticut have contacted him. Agents also contacted several accident investigators, the newspaper reported.

“The FBI involvement is very unusual,” Cooke said.

Cooke would not disclose the nature of the case but said Mr Keilty was being investigated before the crash.

“We’re waiting to see where the FBI is going with this,” Chief Cooke said.

Chief Cooke said the FBI probe does not indicate the crash was anything more than an accident, though the coroner has not ruled anything out.

The pilot of the Piper Navajo, Milton F. Marshall, 76, of Oxford, was also killed in the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

Connecticut FBI spokeswoman Lisa Bull would not discuss the matter. The FBI does not confirm the existence of investigations.
