Goodwill Needs Donations To Stock Up For Back-To-School Season
To support its growing services to the community and to stock up for âback-to-schoolâ shoppers of all ages â nursery school through college â Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut needs donations of clothing, furniture, and household items in good condition.
Donors may drop off items at local Goodwill stores, attended donation centers, and collection bins located throughout Connecticut.
At the stores and attended donation centers, a Goodwill staff person will help the donor unload items and provide a donation receipt for tax purposes. All stores and some attended donation centers are open seven days a week. The Newtown attended donation center at the transfer station, One Ethan Allen Road, is open weekdays and Saturday mornings.
Goodwill stores sell donated items to generate revenues that fund community-based support and employment programs. These programs help people with disabilities and special needs get back to work and achieve independence and self-sufficiency. The disabilities and other barriers to employment that Goodwill helps people to overcome include: acquired brain injury, disabilities caused by illness, loss of hearing or sight, developmental disorders and language barriers, as well as learning and psychiatric disorders.
Goodwill Stores also provide employment opportunities to some of these individuals by hiring and training them to process donations and to work on the sales floor.
In addition, the Goodwill stores sell low-cost, quality merchandise for budget-conscious shoppers. At this time of year, families often shop Goodwill stores to save money on back-to-school items.
Donors may call 800-423-9787 or visit www.goodwillwct.org for a list of donation locations or for further information.
