Emery Kertesz
Emery (Jimmy) Kertesz, 67, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of the Fairfield area, beloved husband of Carlene (Burrows) Kertesz, died on August 22 at St Vincentâs Medical Center, Bridgeport.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Lorraine (Lorrie) Silber and her husband David of Newtown; a son, James Kertesz and his wife Janet of Trumbull; two stepsons, Albert Vela, Jr, and his wife Ruth of Middletown and Martin Vela of Rowlett, Texas; a stepdaughter, Julianne DiTommaso and husband Michael of Dove Canyon, Calif.; grandchildren, Jonathan and Courtney Kertesz, Brian, Kevin, and Alissa Silber, and Michael DiTommaso; two sisters, including his twin, Annus, and Juliscka, both of Hungary; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Alice (Beresky) Kertesz.
Emery was born in Hungary, and emigrated to Fairfield in 1956 as a result of the Hungarian Revolution.
Emery had been a resident of Fairfield, Bridgeport, Newtown, and North Haven, prior to his retirement in 1998 when he moved to Florida. He was the founder and operator of Quality Welding in New Haven.
Emery was an avid golfer and bowler, and once bowled a perfect 300 game. In his younger years, he played soccer in both Hungary and the United States, and was the captain of the Bridgeport Hungarian Soccer team, which often played at Seaside Park.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday in the Lesko Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center, and at St Emery Church in Fairfield. Interment followed at Mt Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
