Margaret E. Scolpino

Margaret “Peggy” E. Scolpino of Bethel died August 24 at Danbury Hospital, just seven days short of her 100th birthday. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Scolpino, and the mother of longtime former Newtown resident, the recently deceased Robert Scolpino. She was born in Danbury, August 31, 1915, and was a daughter of the late Clara (Youngdahl) and A. Theodore Eastberg.

She attended Danbury schools, was a longtime member of the former Swedish Congregational Church in Danbury, and was a member of its choir and Success Society.

Mrs Scolpino was an avid Yankees fan and was a strong supporter of those with disabilities.

Her son Jon Scolpino, and his wife Joan, of Charlestown, R.I.; daughter Jill Scolpino of Bethel; daughter-in-law Carol Scolpino of Southbury; five grandchildren, Debra Nelson of Bethel, David Scolpino of Bethel, Laura Meister of Hampton, Pam Sumple of Southbury, and Susan Niles of Hatfield, Mass.; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews survive Mrs Scolpino. In addition to her son, husband, and parents, a sister, Ruth Burdick, predeceased her.

The funeral will be conducted from the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, Thursday, August 27, at 10:30 am, to a graveside service at 11 am, at St Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel. The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, Wednesday, August 26, from 4 to 7 pm, and Thursday, August 27, at 10 am.
