A Successful Food Drive
To the Editor:
The Knights of Columbus, Saint John XXIII Council 5987, of St. Jude Church, Monroe recently completed a very successful food drive. The drive was held at Stop & Shop locations in Monroe, Newtown and Trumbull over three weekends in August.
Due to the very significant response of the community the Knights were able to collect an estimated 3,000 pounds of non- perishable grocery items and $2,800 in cash donations. The groceries and cash have been distributed to food pantries’ in Monroe, Newtown, Trumbull, and to the Daughters of Charity Mission in Bridgeport. All pantries are very empty at the end of the summer months and the staffs at each pantry were very grateful to receive these donations at this typically slow time of the year. The donations will help contribute to the most fundamental needs of hungry men, women and children.
The Knights of Columbus wish to sincerely thank all who contributed to this significant effort. We also want to thank the Stop & Shop locations that hosted this event.
Again, thank you and God bless you.
