Volunteers are still welcome to work with Newtown Forest Association members in planning the private land trust’s 90th anniversary celebration. Join the NFA at Tuesday night’s planning meeting on September 2 at 7 pm at the NFA Office, at Holcombe Hill Wildlife Preserve at 55/65 Great Hill Road.  All are welcome to help plan the details of the upcoming Sunset Wine Tasting on September 6, sell tickets, or volunteer on the day of the event. Tickets will be available for sale this evening from 7 to  8:30 pm in the offices as well.

The Sunset Wine Tasting celebrates 90 years of privately preserving Newtown’s open space and rural character.  Guests can enjoy a wine tasting along with a small fare, classical jazz standards by WVR Trio, a silent auction, and weather permitting, a spectacular sunset, according to a recent release.

The WVR Trio plays classic jazz standards from the great American songbook. Formed by Ron Vitarelli (guitar),  Mik Walker (bass) and Newtown’s own Dave Reynolds (drums), WVR share a passion for the legendary jazz trios and quartets featuring Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Bill Evans, and Amad Jamal.  Their performances incorporate songs by Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Sonny Rollins, Dave Brubeck, and others.  WVR also plays original arrangements with improvisation that flows between jazz swing, Latin rhythms, and ballads.

For residents who are unable to attend and still want to volunteer, make a contribution, donate items for a silent auction, or buy advance tickets, contact Guy Peterson by e-mail at nfatreasurer@yahoo.com or call 203-733-2030.

The NFA board also send its thanks to WPKN for helping promote the event through several public service announcements and interviews with NFA officers over the next few weeks.
