Sunday Softball Sluggers Compete In Playoffs
Newtownâs Menâs Sunday Softball League playoffs got underway this past weekend at Dickinson Park. Game highlights are as follows:
Dental Associates 28, Hawkeye Liquor 23: Dental trailed by 11 runs, 23-12 in the seventh inning but scored 16 runs in its last two at bats to pull off the comeback. Carl Strait had a pivotal base hit in the seventh and a double in the eighth. Slugger Chris Dennis was walked five times, left fielder Wayne Frick almost hit for the cycle, missing only a single, to drive in seven runs. Steve Feinstein contributed three key singles, and pitchers Greg Giroux and Dennis combined to help their team to victory.
Touch âEm All 13, Cutters 9: The Cutters jumped out to a 8-1 lead behind the hitting of brothers Tim and Tucker LaPak. Tucker blasted a three-run homerun in the first. Touch âEm All chipped away before tying the game in the sixth, and scored five in the seventh to take the lead. Jesse McKay led the way with three hits, and Brian Hamilton drove in four runs. Rich Rekos, Larry Pignatello, Hamilton, and Mike Lancaster all had multi-hit games.
Gas House Gorillas 19, Dental Associates 17: Dennis homered and Greg Lippert and Evan Pinkney had strong fielding.
In other action, the Cutters defeated the Diamond Dazzlers 20-5. The playoffs continue this Sunday, August 28, when Dental Associates faces the Cutters in an elimination game. Touch âEm All will take on The Gas House Gorillas and the winner will advance to the championship.
