Hospital Forms Spiritual Care Dept.

NEW MILFORD — New Milford Hospital announces the formation of a Department of Spiritual Care and appointed the Reverend Dr Paul E. Beavers as the director. This service is instrumental in maintaining the hospital’s commitment to the Planetree health care model. In his new role, Dr Beavers will be assisting the hospital staff in managing the stresses of day-to-day interactions, and support patients and their families through difficult and life-changing illnesses. He is also engaging clergy throughout the region to communicate services and systems available at the hospital, and to have a better understanding of the potential community needs that the hospital may be in a position to support.

The Planetree model promotes the development and implementation of innovative models of health care that focus on healing and nurturing body, mind, and spirit.

“This model is utilized by many hospitals internationally and served as a catalyst for our more identifiable focus on spiritual care here at New Milford Hospital,” according to Deborah Weymouth, executive director and senior vice president at New Milford Hospital. “We recognize that for many of our patients spiritual care can be an important component of the healing process.”
