The production will be directed by veteran Playshop director George Vollano for a November 4 opening.

Auditions will be held at the Playshop, 15 Lovers Lane in Wilton, on Sunday, August 28, at 7 pm, and Monday, August 29, at 7:30 pm.

During its 1999 Broadway run, Putting It Together was billed as a  “review,” rather than a “revue.” Not a straight revue or compilation of Sondheim songs, it tells a story of sorts through the use of  Sondheim songs from various shows from Forum to Assassins, with only a few spoken words and a brief monologue.

Set at a cocktail party in a fashionable Manhattan apartment, the story involves a mature husband with roaming eyes, his wife, and a younger man and woman who shake the foundation of their marriage. An “observer” is on hand as well.

There are available roles for three men and two women – the “mature” couple, the “young” couple and the male “observer” (the narrator) of an unspecified age.

Actors are asked to prepare two songs – one ballad and one uptempo – one of which must be a Sondheim composition.
