Tercentennial Summer Events

Through August 31 — “Passport to Newtown’s Past” archival photography exhibit, presentation of 36 remastered prints from The Newtown Historical Images Archive, in Olga Knoepke Memorial Meeting Room at C.H. Booth Library, on view until August 31.

September 1 — “History in The Making: Faces of Newtown” opens at C.H. Booth Library lower meeting room, 6 to 8 pm, new collection of 13 portraits by members of The Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, depicting current and former leaders and active members of Newtown community, will remain on view until September 30.

September 4 — Al’s Trail Celebratory Open House, bridge at Rocky Glen State Park at Dayton Street, 10 am to 1 pm.

September 5 — Newtown’s Tercentennial Labor Day Parade, begins 10 am, with Parade Marshal Mary Hawley (as portrayed as Beth Cluff); parade will follow traditional route from Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Monument on Main Street, turning onto Glover Avenue, and then turning onto Queen Street, and will feature plenty of fire departments, schools, marching bands, civic and other groups participating.
