RIDGEFIELD â The Ridgefield Theater Barn has announced audition dates for the musical comedy A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, to be directed by Craig David Rosen with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim from the book by Burt Shevelove & Larry Gelbart.
The plot concerns the misadventures of a slave in ancient Rome who is offered his freedom if he can acquire a courtesan for his masterâs son.
Auditions will be at the Ridgefield Theater Barn, 37 Halpin Lane, on Monday and Tuesday, September 12-13, from 7:30 to 9:30 pm each night. Those auditioning should prepare an uptempo Broadway tune, as well as a ballad.
Depending on time, actors may be asked to sing only 16 bars of one song. All will be asked to learn a short piece of dance/movement, so dress appropriately.
Rehearsals will be held evenings and some weekends from mid-September until opening night on Friday, November 11.
Performances will be Fridays Saturdays at 8 pm through December 10, with a matinee on Sunday, December 4, at 2 pm.
