Marian Houlihan Hallock

Former Editor And Writer

Marian Hallock, 92, longtime resident of Newtown, died August 15. She was the widow of Robert Hallock, artist and designer, who predeceased her in 1982.

Born to Edmund Houlihan and Nellie Casey Houlihan in 1913, she grew up in Fairfield and later worked as assistant editor for Plastics Arts magazine in New York City. When she married Mr Hallock in 1937, she was editor-in-chief of Safety, a magazine for the Greater New York Safety Council, eventually moving from New York City to Westport before moving to Newtown in 1952.

Mrs Hallock was a talented writer, agent, and wife, and was well-known as a skilled and knowledgeable cook. She also had a lifelong interest in politics that motivated her involvement with the League of Women Voters.

Her son, John Hallock of Bethlehem, and daughter, Susan Hallock Graham of Lyndonville, Vt survive her; as well as nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
