New IAIS Exhibit To Feature Local Collections; Museum Seeking Loans
WASHINGTON â The Institute for American Indian Studies is looking for collectors of Native American pottery or Navajo rugs. The museum is planning a new exhibit to feature not only items from its private collection but also collections of local residents.
âWe thought it would be fun to invite area residents to bring in their collections and have them displayed in a temporary exhibit,â said Tiffany Gordon, collections manager for IAIS. âCollections are especially wanted, but you donât have to be a collector to participate. Weâre interested in showcasing a wide variety of items from across the decades.â
âIn addition to our own collection of baskets, moccasins, and stone tools, IAIS is looking for textiles, stone implements, photographs, pottery, and other Native American items of interest. Although we prefer to use items indigenous to the New England Woodland Indians, we look forward to exhibiting items from all across the country,â said Ms Gordon.
âIf participants wish to remain anonymous, we will certainly protect their privacy,â she emphasized.
