*The Wagon Master Does It Again: Willard Hemstra, a charming man who lives in Nunnawauk Meadows, has created a new model of a Budweiser wagon and Clydesdale horses pulling it.
Done completely by hand, Mr Hemstra carved the five-foot long wagon, the eight horses pulling the wagon, and the 32 keg barrels in the back of the wagon. The new wagon will be on view in the first floor display cases until August 31.
Childrenâs Programs
*Preschool Story Times: Registration for fall story times begins August 26 and will continue to September 6. Classes are offered for 2- and 3-year-old and their caregivers on Mondays from 10 to 10:30 or 11 to 11:30, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10.
Classes for 3-5-year olds are offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 11 to 11:45, and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 1:45.
Children must be 2 years of age on or before September 11 and a resident of Newtown to be eligible for this free program. Registration forms are available at the childrenâs circulation desk; no phone registrations will be accepted.
*Lapsit Program: A new program is being offered for children 12-24 months and their caregiver on Saturday mornings at 10 am, beginning September 16.
The program will feature songs, interactive rhymes and very short books. Due to limited space, we cannot accommodate siblings. Children must be at least 12 months old and a resident of Newtown to be eligible for this free program.
No phone registrations will be accepted. Register in the childrenâs department between August 26 and September 6. Participants will be chosen by lottery.
*Nutmeg Book Discussion: The Boy Who Saved Baseball by John H. Ritter is the next Nutmeg nominee to be discussed.
We will meet on Wednesday, August 30, from 4 to 5 pm for this program.
The fate of a small California town rests on the outcome of one baseball game, and Tom Gallagher hopes to lead his team to victory with the secrets of the now disgraced player, Dante Del Gato.

*Letâs Talk About: The next YA BookTalk will be on Wednesday, September 13, from 4 to 5 pm, in the Story Room.
Letâs talk about Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, in which 12-year-old Meggie learns that her father, who repairs and binds books for a living, can âreadâ fictional characters to life. What happens when one of those characters abducts them and tries to force him into service?
Read the book to find out, and then join us for a discussion. Readers in grades 5 are invited. and up please join us. Sign up at the main floor circulation desk, call the library, or just drop in.
Adult Programs
*The Farmerâs Voice: A documentary film, The Farmerâs Voice, written and directed by Beverly Corvino will be screened and discussed in the library meeting room on Wednesday, August 30, at 7 pm.
The film was created to educate the public about the disappearance of neighborhood farms in Connecticut. See this weekâs Enjoy pages for a full feature about the film and its creator, and then join us Wednesday evening for the screenings.

*Wellness Series: The library will host a six-part series, âEnhancing Wellness,â on consecutive Tuesdays, September 12 to October 17. Come learn a few easy ways to take care of yourself and your family, reduce stress, and promote inner peace.
Each program will run from 7 to 9 pm. The schedule is as follows: September 12, âMassage and Jin Shin Jitsuâ; September 19, âYogaâ; September 26, âCentering and Creativityâ; October 3, âRelieving Stress with a Spa Experience at Homeâ; October 10, âBotanical Medicineâ; and October 17, âNutrition.â
