Hartley’s Paintings In Kent Gallery

KENT — Noted abstract landscape painter Dennis Hartley will exhibit new oil paintings in a one-person show at The Morrison Gallery opening September 2 and running through October 6

The exhibit will begin with an opening reception on Saturday, September 2, from 2 to 5 pm, with jazz by The Joe Beck Duo.

Dennis Hartley was born and raised in southern California, received his degree in architecture from Arizona State University in 1972 and since then has worn the hats of architect, designer, and builder.

In 1998 he put aside other professional pursuits in order to paint full-time.

Of his painting, Mr Hartley says: “One of my ongoing subjects for representation is the barn in the landscape, which for me represents the larger issue of the relationship of man and nature, the overriding theme of ancient Chinese painting. To me, these slowly aging icons of humble purpose possess a certain noble and monumental quality that transcends a sentimental viewpoint.”
