Carol Bancroft
Multifaceted Business Owner
Carol Bancroft of Sandy Hook, founder of Carol Bancroft & Friends of Bethel, died peacefully in her home June 9 after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrigs Disease (ALS). A memorial service to celebrate her incredible life was held Sunday, August 20, at Tarrywile Mansion in Danbury.
Born Carol Jane Bancroft on December 13, 1930, in Philadelphia, she soon moved to Connecticut. Carol attended LaSalle College receiving her AA in liberal arts, then went to Rhode Island School of Design where she received her BFA in advertising design.
She became a force to be reckoned with as she moved through the publishing world, from magazines Ladiesâ Home Journal, McCallâs, and Womanâs Day, then onto McGraw-Hillâs Junior Book Division. She won numerous awards, conducted seminars, lectured, and spearheaded many fundraisers.
In 1972, she made her lasting mark by founding her own business. Carol Bancroft & Friends, an agency representing artists who specialize in art for children, is now in its 34th year and growing.
Always âdoing it her way,â she was filled with energy abounding and will be missed but fondly remembered.
Her brother David and his wife and children of San Francisco survive Carol. She is also survived by her large extended family of friends, illustrators, and colleagues.
