Tre Regazze           9

Tre Regazze took the field with only eight players in the nightcap of the championship doubleheader and, yet, despite that shortcoming they managed to stay within shouting distance of Beeline Woodworking well into the sixth inning.

But a five-run rally by Beeline in the top of the seventh put to rest all thoughts of a miracle upset.

Beeline scored six runs in the top of the first thanks to a run-scoring double by Justine Kohlsaat and a run-scoring triple by Julie Mooney. But Tre Regazze answered back with two runs in the bottom of the frame on an RBI triple by Denise Passano and an RBI single by Kelley Lametto.

A triple by Ellen Goyda in the top of the second led to two more runs for Beeline but in the bottom of the frame Lametto – who finished 3-for-5 with a double and six RBI – rapped a two-run single and scored on a single to pull Tre Regazze to within three, 8-5.

Both teams went quietly in the third and fourth innings before three consecutive singles by Goyda, Melissa Jones and Kohlsaat (who finished the night 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored) and two consecutive sacrifice flies put Beeline up, 10-5. Tre Regazze could only get one of those runs back in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly by Lametto.

In the sixth, the teams scored two runs each – Fisher and Goyda banged out RBI singles for Beeline while Lametto bopped a two-run double for Tre Regazze – and heading into the final frame it was still a bit of a game with Beeline ahead, 12-8.

The five-run explosion took care of it, though.

Five consecutive singles and a two-run double by Angie Taylor jolted Beeline out to a 17-8 lead. Tre Regazze could only get one back in the bottom of the seventh on a run-scoring single by Passano, who finished the night 4-for-6 with a double, triple and two RBI.

Beeline put together a 24-hit attack with Fisher and Goyda banging out three hits apiece.

Team members included Nancy Bowen, Laurie Dale, Eileen Frattaroli, Mary Ann Fisher, Ellen Goyda, Paget Haylon, Melissa Jones, Justine Kohlsaat, Christie Liberante, Julie Mooney, Sue Ormsbee, Cindy Palkimas, Lisa Pollock, Doris Ratner and Angie Taylor.

Newtown Exxon    20

Special K’s             5

Laurie Mathison singled, doubled and homered while Kathy Housen doubled twice to lead Newtown Exxon to a mercy-rule shortened 20-5 win over the Special K’s. Carrie Warner collected four hits while Patty Powers had three in the offensive onslaught.

The Special K’s scored three times in the top of the first but Exxon exploded for nine runs to take immediate control of the game. After three innings, Exxon had built up a 12-5 lead and added to that with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, three in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Powers singled, doubled and tripled and it was that triple in the sixth – good for two RBI – that ended the affair.

Leslie DiIorio singled and tripled and Lisa Cascella singled and doubled to help spark the offense.

Team members included Shari Burton, Lisa Cascella, Leslie DiIorio, Rachel Dargenio, Stacie Hebert, Melissa Kopcik, Carol Marie LaFreniere, Laura Mathison, Kathy Housen, Patty Powers, Tricia Ricci, Maura Strokis, Justine Simple, Julia Truchess, Mary Tucker and Carrie Warner.
