The following letter has been received by The Newtown Bee for publication.

To the residents of Newtown,

Newtown has been my home since 1991. As a child I attended Hawley Elementary as well as the Middle School. Graduating from Newtown High in 2005, where I excelled in athletics, I went on to attend Penn State as a scholarship student while playing tight end in the football program. Currently, I am involved in our family business, which provides packaging and processing equipment solutions to manufacturers throughout the country.

My wife, Anna, and I relocated from Delaware to Connecticut, and in 2022 returned to Newtown where we enjoy raising our son.

As a Republican running for the BOE, my viewpoints have always been grounded in common sense. As parents, I firmly believe that it is our responsibility to be the biggest advocates for our children. This entails being involved in our children’s education and having a clear understanding of what is being taught in the classroom. Curriculums should offer real life value such as reading, math, science and history and complemented with electives offering financial literacy, taxes, proper nutrition and exercise.

If elected, my mission will be to return the Newtown School District to its Blue Ribbon status, an honor the District was proud of while I was a student here in Newtown. In my opinion, politics have no place in the classroom. The emphasis should be to return to the basics which prepare our children to prosper and compete as successful adults. I want to be that voice for all families that simply want the best for their children’s education. I invite the residents of Newtown to engage in conversation and get to know me and consider me for the honor of leadership on the Board of Education in Newtown.

Thank you,

Brennan Coakley
